You are born to fly and in dreams you remember the soul has wings…..Robert Moss
Have you ever experienced astral travel? The thing that happens when your soul takes flight while you sleep. Sometimes you’ll wake up with a start and you feel like something just landed on top of you. It’s said to be the soul returning to your body after some exploration. I’m sure you’ve all heard the stories of people floating above themselves in operating theatres etc. This is all part of the same phenomena.
I’ve actually experience this personally so drastically on about 2 occasions in my lifetime. I’m fascinated by it. I won’t go into long lengthy discussion about it on here but it is something I am always trying to learn more about.
So for the 30 day challenge I’m participating in with Brooke Shaden, on the day of the flying challenge, I wanted to do this photo. My model wasn’t available on the day, so I did something else and put this on hold for a few days. Then today, the challenge was to create 3 pieces of art that tell a story and my heart skipped a beat with excitement. I knew this was what I’d do.
A woman lays in her bed, reading the book Chocolat and is engrossed in the love story set in France. (If you haven’t seen it, it’s a lovely story about strong women, love, independence and temptation with a whole lot of sweet chocolate thrown in.) She has lost herself in the story and doesn’t notice her surroundings. When she goes to sleep, her soul decides to pack a case and go travelling. In the window, the possibility of Paris becomes obvious and in the third photo she is leaving her body and flying to the city of love on her soul wings.
I had so much fun doing this. I will revisit it as I’m not 100% happy with it, but I really wanted to get the concept and a first draft finished today. Hopefully in a few weeks, I’ll go back and see it with fresh eyes and redo the triptych so I am completely satisfied with it. But for now, I’ve achieved what I set out to do. Thanks to my lovely model Trish for not just posing for me, but for all her help in getting this shot accomplished.
